Competition Description
This runway has your name on it!
We are looking for 6 emerging designers to join our National Lottery-funded event at the Queen’s House in Greenwich on the 11th September.
The Stitching Communities Together project is all about connecting communities through textile history – mixing contemporary fashion with historical dress and bringing intergenerational creativity opportunities to local South London Community groups. You will work directly with one of our community groups for older people to collaborate with or be inspired by their stories in creating a historically inspired pocket to incorporate into one of your runway looks. You will be paid for this community workshop time to help you build experience in community engagement, in addition to the materials grant for your creative contribution to the show.
Why apply?
An opportunity to show up to 10 looks from your existing/new collection as part of the show in the beautiful setting of the stone colonnades of the Queens House in Greenwich.
A small materials grant to create at least one outfit incorporating historically inspired pockets in some form
Introductory session at The Queen’s House in Greenwich. An opportunity to visit the QH collection and perhaps be inspired by an object/painting for the creation of a garment.
A fully funded Historical Pocket ‘Masterclass run by Illuminated Arts – to learn the construction and stories around historical tie-on pockets.
All applicants will be invited to attend the Pocket Parade Runway Show and can get involved as volunteers on the day if they wish.
