Description

The William Morris Society aims to perpetuate the memory of one of the greatest men of the Victorian age. The life, work, and ideas of William Morris are as important today as they were in his lifetime. The Society exists to make them as widely known as possible. The Society’s museum is located in Hammersmith, in the coach house and basement rooms of Kelmscott House; William Morris’ home and hosting space from 1878 until his death in 1896.

The Society is currently recruiting Front of House volunteers, a role which includes:

  • Welcoming visitors, charging entry fees, and keeping tally whilst doing so.
  • Monitoring the gift shop, ensuring the displays are stocked, and completing sales using POS systems.
  • Engaging with visitors and answering questions, sharing your knowledge on the history of William Morris and Kelmscott House (full training and resources will be provided).
  • Providing information about Membership.

No prior experience is necessary, however a willingness to learn about William Morris’ work is beneficial. The role would suit anybody looking to gain experience in the museums, arts and heritage sector. We require a minimum of 3 three-hour sessions per month during our open hours, which are Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays 2-5pm. You are not paid for your time as a volunteer, however we provide reimbursement for travel expenses up to £20 per month
