Main Duties

Event stewards are the main representatives of the festival, this requires an approachable and friendly manner towards visitors, able to assist the public in a polite, inclusive, open and helpful way. Stewards will be invited to volunteer for events in your areas of interest (e.g. music, science, art) where you will be expected to assist event creators and festival staff in setting up and packing away events. There will be events that involve audiences of various ranges so stewards will be expected to handling themselves in an accommodating manner while also abiding by safeguarding protocols. Volunteers will also be expected to arrive earlier than the time of the event to help setting up the event or in any way needed. Volunteers will also be in charge of maintaining and monitoring the box office of our free-ticketed events. Volunteers will also work with our Box Office team at paid-ticketed events to ensure that all tickets are checked.

Skills and Experience Required

This role offers first-hand experience in the festival industry, working at live events both ticketed and open to the public. Introducing the volunteers to a range of people in the Bloomsbury arts, culture, science, and performance world. The festival works with many large and small partners, bringing together a variety of hosts and creators including artists and academics, scientists and dancers, and musicians all with the aim to inspire and learn from each other. By helping the festival, stewards will be able to meet and make connections, while exploring a creative side of the local community. Volunteer training will be provided (late September/early October) that will introduce the team and the aims of the festival. You will be working alongside the festival staff, as well as the Festival’s Event Partners and performers. Event Partners will include multiple professionals within their field, as well as recognised artists, culture and academic institutions, and community organisations. The volunteer roles are designed for anyone 18+ who has an interest in supporting the festival and/or gaining additional skills and work experience. We wish for volunteers to enjoy the festival while gaining experiences and possible connections.  Stewards will be invited to volunteer for events in your areas of interest (e.g. music, science, art) where you will be expected to assist event creators and festival staff in setting up and packing away events.
