Science Museum Group

Main Duties

Do you have solid security management experience and excellent stakeholder relationship skills?

At the Science Museum Group (SMG), we make it our mission to inspire futures. We have a responsibility to keep our museums safe for colleagues and visitors. To support this work, we are now looking for a permanent Group Security Advisor to join us on a permanent basis. The role can be based in either London, Manchester or York, but with a Group-wide remit.

Skills and Experience

As Group Security Advisor, you will play a key part in the safety and security of our visitors, colleagues and collections. Working across our seven sites, you will provide expert advice to our teams to ensure adequate security systems and measures are in place. This includes supporting our projects team with our major capital redevelopments and ensuring proportionate security considerations have been considered throughout the design process. You will also manage our security contract, working closely with the Operations team at each site to ensure the contract is delivering against agreed KPI’s and providing the best possible service to SMG. You will also play an important role in developing and implementing our Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity plans, as well as completing monitoring and reporting on security matters.

Joining us, you will have extensive security management experience with experience of advising on technical and physical security requirements in respect of people, objects, and health & safety. You will be comfortable working to and measuring KPIs in relation to budgets and contractor performance. You will have a strong visitor and customer focus, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You will work with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, so good relationship building skills are essential.

The Science Museum Group (SMG) is here to inspire futures. As the world’s leading group of science museums, we share our unparalleled collection spanning science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine with over five million visitors each year. Joining us as an employee, you will have the opportunity to develop your career in a world-class museum group. We know work/life balance and wellbeing is crucial to our colleagues, so we currently offer up to 27 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays; employee assistance programme; enhanced contributory pension; enhanced occupational sick, maternity, paternity and adoption leave and career breaks.

‘Open for All’ is one of the Science Museum Group’s five core values and sets out our important aspiration to be a place for everyone. As a national museum group, we have an ability to reach a wide and diverse population of audiences, colleagues and partners through our geography and scale.

We are working hard to understand our organisation better and to foster a culture that recognises and values different backgrounds, mindsets, skills, experience, knowledge and expertise. By having greater diversity, we believe that we will be a stronger and better organisation and ultimately will be able to inspire more futures. We therefore welcome applications from those who bring difference.
