Main Duties
Overview
An established painter based in Chelsea is seeking a reliable, organised, and creative Studio Assistant to support the day-to-day running of the studio and assist with documentation, digital presence, and collaborative studio work. This role is ideal for someone with an interest in contemporary art, studio practice, and arts administration.
Key Responsibilities
Studio Support & General Duties
– Assist with general studio organisation and upkeep
– Support preparation for exhibitions, deadlines, and projects
– Help with packing, handling, and storing artworks
– Run occasional local errands related to studio needs
Artwork Documentation
– Photograph artworks accurately and consistently (for archive, website, and social media use)
– Basic image editing and file organisation
– Maintain a clear digital archive of works
Website & Digital Presence
– Update the artist’s website with new works, images, and text
– Ensure content is current, accurate, and well-presented
Social Media & Content Creation
– Assist with planning and creating content for social media platforms
– Photograph and document studio activity and works in progress
– Support consistent posting and engagement (tone guided by the artist)
Collaboration
– Work closely with the artist to support creative and practical needs
– Communicate clearly and proactively about tasks and priorities
Skills and Experience Required
– Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
– Confidence with photography; high-quality smartphone acceptable for social media and a good camera for website photos.
– Comfortable with basic image editing and website platforms; Squarespace, Canva, Mailchimp
– Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram in particular)
– Interest in fine art and contemporary painting
– Adroit at stretching canvases
– Reliable, discreet, and able to work independently
Practical Details
– Approximately 15-20 hours per month, flexible scheduling
– At least 10 hours per month working on-site in the Chelsea studio, on Tuesday Wednesday or Friday.
– Remaining hours may be completed remotely where appropriate
– This role is suitable for graduates only.
Desirable
– Art school background or experience working in an artist’s studio
– Basic knowledge of archiving, inventory, or exhibition preparation
– A camera for website photography
