About Blackhorse Workshop
Blackhorse Workshop is a pioneering open-access workshop and cultural hub based in Walthamstow, East London. Founded by the Turner Prize-winning collective Assemble, we aim to empower a new generation of makers by providing affordable access to professional tools, machinery, and training in wood and metalwork.
Our mission is to create a space that is inclusive, vibrant, and rooted in the local community – a place that supports creativity, enterprise, and learning through making. Alongside our facilities, we offer an adult learning programme, youth training, public events, and artist residencies, all supported by a lively on-site café.
About the Role
We are looking for a creative, organised, and proactive Programme & Marketing Coordinator to support the delivery of our programme and lead on marketing and communications.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who believes in the power of making and wants to contribute to a creative, community-driven environment. You’ll play a vital role in shaping the Workshop’s cultural output and ensuring our programmes reach and engage a diverse audience.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Coordination:
- Schedule and coordinate adult courses, including tutor liaison, populating calendars and tutor rotas
- Liaising with tech team on course prep and materials
- Keeping financial records related to course expenditure
- Upload and maintain course listings on the website and internal calendars
- Follow Blackhorse Workshop’s Data Protection Policy in relation to course attendees
- Monitor course performance, track ticket sales, and promote courses as needed
- Evaluating the course programme, collecting feedback from attendees and tutors
- Alongside our Reception team, dealing with enquiries and customer service related to the course programme
- Manage course logistics including tutor absences, attendee communications, and emergency contact rota
- Oversee the Concessions Club, managing eligibility and offerings in collaboration with the Deputy Director
- Contribute to programme and project development
Events:
- Support delivery of events and socials for Studio Members
- Assist with larger public events (e.g. Christmas Market, Open House, London Design Festival), including scheduling, promotion, and on-the-day coordination
- Help run ad hoc events such as workshops, open days, events in the cafe and staff activities
- Support the delivery of one-off public projects and residencies
Marketing & Communications:
- Maintain a consistent brand identity across all communications
- Plan and deliver marketing content for: social media (Instagram, Facebook; with potential to grow TikTok and YouTube)
- Develop and design social media and marketing assets
- Compile, draft and send Bi-weekly newsletters
- Produce and distribute printed marketing materials (flyers, posters)
- Develop and manage a monthly social media content schedule
- Respond to audience queries and engagement via social media channels
- Manage GDPR-compliant mailing lists, hashtags, and Linktree
- Laise with photographers to create course and event documentation
Website:
- Regularly update and maintain the website (course listings, news, makers showcase)
- Be the first point of contact for website queries
- Support administrative woo commerce tasks (refunds, course moves, bench bookings)
- Ensure website accessibility and compliance
- Develop information packs and standardised communications to welcome people to the workshop and support them to continue making after their course
Residency Support:
- Promote residency opportunities, and the work of our current and previous residents
- Welcome and support our makers in residency
- Maintain the residency desk and assist with day-to-day needs
Skills and Experience Required
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Experience coordinating courses, projects or events in a creative or cultural setting
- Experience working in a small, collaborative team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
- Proficiency in Canva and Microsoft Office
- Confident in using social media platforms
- Understanding of creative and maker communities in London
- Collaborative, adaptable, and proactive attitude
- Basic graphic design skills (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Canva)
- Knowledge of website CMS and digital marketing tools
- Awareness of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) principles and a commitment to embedding inclusive practices in programming and communications
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge of the cultural and maker sectors
- Basic video editing skills
- Experience in financial administration (e.g. managing budgets, processing invoices)
- Experience working with artists, makers and creatives
- Experience working in the community sector in charities or CICs
