Main Duties

The Essex & South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership (ESSCRP) invites University of the Arts London students to design posters for the new Beaulieu Park Station, which opened in Chelmsford in October 2025. This is a unique opportunity to showcase creative work in a high-profile public space, seen daily by thousands of passengers.

Beaulieu Park is the first new station on the Great Eastern Main Line in over a century. It will serve Chelmsford’s growing community, including a new housing development, and provide improved access to London and East Anglia. Chelmsford itself has a rich history: once a Roman settlement, and home to the historic Hylands House & Park, it later became famous as the birthplace of radio, thanks to Guglielmo Marconi’s pioneering work. Today, Chelmsford is a vibrant city blending heritage with modern growth, and the station will be a gateway to both.

Students are asked to create up to five A2 poster designs that reflect local identity, history, and community spirit, whilst celebrating sustainable travel. These will then be shortlisted, with five posters ultimately going on display. This project offers excellent exposure, with artwork displayed prominently at the station and shared through ESSCRP’s digital networks. It’s a chance to contribute to a landmark development and leave a lasting creative imprint on Essex’s rail history.

What is the Essex & South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership?

The Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership, hosted by Essex County Council, was formed in 1998, with the aim of promoting local communities and rail travel within the east of England. It sits under a larger umbrella of the Community Rail Network and is fully supported by the Department for Transport, who see community rail as a vital link between the rail industry and local communities.

Supporting our local communities and railway involves producing publicity material, developing partnerships, supporting station adoption projects led by our volunteers, and organising special event trains – such as trains to the Sea Shanty Festival in Harwich, the annual Christmas train and live music showcases.
