Graduate Trainee, RTW Design

Main Duties

• Receive work and briefs from the design team and translate these ideas into 3D pieces
• Researching inspiration for collections and developing shapes and ideas from the brief
• Draping and pattern cutting to generate new and innovative shapes and volumes
• Produce quick, first 3D mock-ups to check fit and fabric
• Produce prototypes and finish samples in a timely manner for presentations
• Amend patterns and alter garments as required
• Create boards and rails to present to the Design team
• Ensure the studio archive is maintained and organised
• General organisation of the department and support to the design team.

Skills and Experience Required

• Experience and interest in Ready to Wear Design
• Degree level in womenswear or menswear design
• Technical capability with ability to create mock-ups and work in 3D
• Intermediate pattern cutting and stitching skills
• Understanding of fabrics, their properties, their suitability for garments and ways in which they can be finished
• Collaborative team player with strong initiative
• High level of creativity
• Flexible and adaptable
• Strong organisational skills
• Computer skills – proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator (+ indesign)
