Skills and Experience Required
The post requires someone who enjoys managing and leading a small team and has a generous, non-hierarchical approach. The Director is responsible for all aspects of the organisation’s work. The person should have a good awareness of contemporary music and its contexts, be an excellent communicator, and have a track record in fundraising and partnership working. Experience and a track record in marketing and in organisational management (including finances) is also essential. It is desirable that the postholder can quickly build a working knowledge of cultural life within Oxford, and should ideally be resident in the city either full or part-time.
Strong knowledge of the arts and cultural sector, with particular regard to contemporary music, and good contacts in the field;
Experience working in or with similar arts / cultural organisations;
Strong knowledge of the current funding climate and context, including ACE and other funders;
Experience and enthusiasm for cross-artform, public space, outdoor and site-specific work;
Experience and a track record in fundraising;
Strong and proven financial management skills, including the ability to set and work within budgets and manage expenditure and income;
Experience of commissioning and co-commissioning new work;
Experience working with multiple partners and stakeholders and setting up collaborations;
Experience of working with artists from a range of disciplines and backgrounds;
Knowledge of organisational models / entrepreneurial;
Experience of placemaking/ working with communities;
Experience of line management and employment law;
Experience of producing events, including liaison with artists and venues, contracting,marketing and promotion;
Excellent organisation and communication skills;
Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels, e.g. with colleagues, Trustees, the public and people of different ages and backgrounds;
Understanding of and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion;
Understanding of and commitment to environmental sustainability.
Working knowledge of cultural life within Oxford and the region and/or of touring work in the UK;
Experience of working with communities and young people and has some safeguarding training;
Experience of talent development;
Understanding of the technical aspects of event production;
Experience and knowledge of current guidance on Health & Safety at work and at Events.
