Artist in Residence required
Cricket Green School is looking to appoint a committed, practicing Artist to work with our cohort of over 250 young people with special educational needs. The successful applicant will provide an inspiring, creative presence, whilst having the opportunity to continue practicing art within our purpose-built facilities.
Cricket Green is an outstanding (OFSTED 2010, 2013, 2017, 2023) special school catering for students from ages 4-19 with a diverse range of learning needs (including ASD, SpLD, SEMH, MLD and SLD.)
This is a unique opportunity for an inspiring Artist, who is passionate about Art and helping young people to develop their artistic potential. You will possess the drive and determination to support a thriving Art Department, in a school which has a flourishing creative arts tradition.
This is an exciting prospect for either an art graduate or an experienced Artist.
The main duties for this role will be to support and guide individuals and small groups of students in art projects within a dedicated art studio; to help facilitate their ideas and to drive larger whole school art projects.
The artist in residence will also provide practical and technical support in Art, both inside and outside of lessons and assist in putting up, and renewing displays of artwork around the school buildings.
It is essential that you are an effective team member, who is willing to support the Art Department; within timetabled lessons, running workshops and drop-in sessions throughout the week.
Skills and Experience Required
The schedule of the Artist in Residence will include protected time for their own artistic endeavours which we believe will be inspirational to our pupils.

- Has portfolio evidence of a high quality of artistic work.
- Has a relevant degree or equivalent experience in Art.
- Is passionate about working with children in an educational setting.
- Has a clear idea about how their practice can positively impact the students at CGS.
- Has some experience organising exhibitions.
- Is committed to their own professional development.
- Is able to motivate and enthuse students.
- Can work collaboratively with colleagues.
