St Paul's Girls' School

Company Profile

St Paul's Girls' School is one of the country's leading independent secondary schools for girls aged 11 - 18. Based in Hammersmith, the school provides excellent facilities and a lively and stimulating environment, matched by consistently outstanding exam results. Since the foundation of St Paul’s, art has been an integral and important part of the curriculum with the splendid Main Studio at the centre of the subject’s teaching. The department continues to grow and develop with art and design education taking place in a series of specialist areas. The studios form a series of inter-connected work areas, with the large Main Studio used primarily for painting and drawing as well as regular after school life class sessions. Connected to the Main Studio to one side is the Ceramics Studio which in turn leads to the Printmaking Studio where a variety of printmaking techniques are taught including etching, dry-point, lino and woodcut. Connected to the Main Studio on the opposite side are the Digital Art Studio, where you find a suite of Mac computers with Adobe Creative Cloud, the photographic darkroom and finally the Senior Studio where A-level art students are based and which has wonderful rooftop views across London. The Design & Sculpture Workshop is housed in a separate building on ground floor level next to the IT centre. The workshop is very well equipped and students are taught the fundamentals of design and construction working with wood, fabrics, plastics and metal, taught with a fine art and sculptural focus. A welding room and metal-working facilities are in operation. There are around 780 girls at the school, with all in the first three years taking art, around half of each year group taking the school's own Visual Arts Course at GCSE age, and around 12 girls in each A-level year group. Girls have great flexibility to choose which of the specialist studios and teachers they wish to work with, creating a lively, exciting and vibrant creative atmosphere.
