Not Just a Shop Jigsaw Design Compeititon

Competition Description

Jigsaw design competition

Application deadline: 10am Monday 7 July 

We’d like to invite current UAL students to design a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle. The selected designs will be sold at not just a shop in store and online from October 2025.

We’re looking for designs that represent the quality, creativity and diversity of UAL. We encourage applications from all disciplines.

Eligibility

  • Currently studying at 1 of the 6 UAL colleges on a BA, MA, PHD or FdA level course.
  • Submitted designs cannot be used commercially at the time of sale of the jigsaw (for example, used on other products or sold in other places).
  • Designs made with generative AI are no longer accepted. You are able to use assistive AI but we will require details on the process and programme you have used.

Criteria for selection

  • Originality
  • Public appeal
  • Surface design that will keep a customer engaged to complete the jigsaw
  • Commercial viability

How to enter

  • Prepare your designs in JPEG file format, high-resolution (300 dpi), with a max size of 1MB each.
  • Image format: 69.6 x 48.6cm. This includes a 3mm bleed area around the outside edge.
  • We will select only 1 design per person but you are welcome to apply with up to 3 images for a better chance of selection.
  • Upload your designs by 10am Monday 26 June 2025 via the application form.
  • If selected, the winning entry will need to supply an Illustrator, EPS or TIFF file

Winner's Prize

Up to 2 winning students will each receive £250 and 2 sets of their own winning jigsaw design.

The winning designs will be:

  • professionally photographed.
