Description

Don’t Bin It, Fix It! – Volunteer Repairers Needed!

Do you have skills in clothes, electronics or bicycles repair? We’re looking for volunteer Repairers for our monthly Community Repair Hubs starting in July. You don’t need to be an expert, you just need to be open to share the skills you have with community members to help our community to tackle waste and save money. We’ll have a range of materials and equipment on offer that you can use to help others mend their broken items. Find out more about the event here.

We will cover travel costs for volunteers within zone 1 – 4.

Confirmed Session Dates

Holborn Library

Saturday 4th July and 1st August

11.30am – 2.30pm

Main Duties

Volunteer Repair Workshop Assistants will be asked to:

  • Help attendees with basic repairs in electronics, clothes or bicycles (depending on their experience area)
  • Offer advice on where attendees could do if the repair is too complicated (list of local repair shops will be provided)
  • Track how much waste is being saved, either by weight (with scales provided) or number of items
  • Support with setting up/clearing away materials and equipment

What will the volunteering role offer the student and what will they learn while they are with you?

Volunteering will be a chance to build your skills and experience in:

  • workshop facilitation skills,
  • develop technical repair skills in electronics, bicycles and clothing repair,
  • build experience working on community sustainability projects,
  • build experience working at community events.

We can offer a 30-minute mentoring session for volunteers who are able to attend 2 sessions or more.

We will be happy to offer a character reference for future opportunities after volunteering with us.
