Main Duties
We are looking for a technical expert in theatre construction and theatrical finishing techniques. The post holder may additionally have an interest in theatrical design and realisation, a desirable addition to augment the resident technical team’s skills.
The post holder is responsible for delivering build, construction and finish across a dynamic range of productions, including established texts, devised work, student-led festivals, Christmas shows, and other ancillary projects within the department.
Based at our Colchester Campus, the post holder will act as a technical lead in the department, supporting the broader department output and learning activities across East 15 – Colchester. Helping to supplement the skills existing within the department.
This full-time role will be based in Colchester and will require infrequent travel to other venues/locations as required for project delivery. There may be occasional (infrequent) support required for the Loughton Campus on an ad hoc basis.
Skills and Experience Required
Experience of professional theatre working environments is essential, and previous work within an educational setting is desirable.
The candidate will have relevant professional links and strong organisational skills, as well as technical knowledge to support the maintenance and upkeep of equipment.
The right candidate should have a hands-on ability and experience in differing construction media and techniques, demonstrating outstanding integration of workshop and construction health and safety considerations in their working methods alongside the ability to collaborate with designers, realising designs provided.
