Student Illustrator

Main Duties

The writer (name below) has completed a children’s short story for middle grade readers, and is seeking a student of Illustration to contribute to this work.

Character illustration will be an extremely important part of bringing this story to life by creating key characters and settings. Equally important will be the process of online publishing through the online Amazon Self-Publishing platform.

This is a remote working, short-term project with an hourly rate paid according to the National Minimum Wage guidelines.

Illustration

-Creating illustrations for front page, back page and selected internal sections

-Creating initial, rough character sketches for review and post review editing

-Adding colour and detail to the approved sketches, using either traditional (watercolour, crayons) or digital media using the student’s original works

-Scanning and preparing final digital files, ensuring they meet technical requirements such as colour and any other requirements for such as resolution and Kindle guidelines

Skills and Experience Required

Required Talents and skills 

• Strong skills in drawing, colour and character creation suitable for target audience (middle grade readers)
• Ability to create illustrations which engage the readers to feel and connect with the story setting or situation
• Maintaining consistent character appearances and styles across relevant sections
• Effective communication, time management, and ability to accept direction and feedback
• Experience with digital software is highly desirable as some assistance with Amazon Publishing may be required
