Main Duties

We are working on a live, interactive show called Brain Storm, where participants will sit around tables in groups and collaboratively write a story during the show. At the end of the night we reveal their stories back to them as a comic strip projected on screen. We want to work with an illustrator to co-create the format and do the illustrations (similar to a conference sketch artist but for a theatre show).
Here’s what we think the tasks may look like but are open to other ideas.
– Before the show create 6-8 template panels (the fixed frames of the comic strip with blank slots where the live work gets dropped in). There is no time pressure for this part.
– During the show there are 4 rounds. After each round you’d get a piece of paper with the context (that just goes in as text) and the winning action. You’d illustrate that action in 1 panel. At least 10 minutes per round to draw. So across the whole show that’s about 8 -10 panels drawn live (as there would be two tables doing this).
– The drawings don’t need to be polished, speed and personality matter more than detail. The scenes tend to be concrete decisions (i.e. someone gets on a train, someone sends a text, someone walks away.) So mostly drawing people doing things rather than anything abstract.
If you’re intrigued, please reach out!
This will be featured in a festival so could be a good opportunity to network as there will be other theatre and game makers there.
