Main Duties

Role Overview

Stephen Liu Design is seeking a freelance Pattern Maker to support the development of patterns for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2027/28 collection. This role will involve translating conceptual designs into accurate digital patterns using CLO3D, ensuring garments maintain the intended silhouette, structure, and fit. The position may also involve developing physical draping samples for selected looks to support the design process.

This role is ideal for a pattern maker with strong technical ability who is comfortable working with experimental silhouettes and avant-garde fashion.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop digital garment patterns using CLO3D based on design sketches, references, and a sense of creative direction.
• Translate conceptual or experimental garment designs into technically accurate patterns.
• Collaborate closely with the designer to refine fit, proportion, and garment structure.
• Produce digital prototypes and simulations to test garment construction and movement.
• Adjust and iterate patterns based on feedback and design development.
• Create and update pattern files ready for sampling and production.
• Where required, produce draped samples or toiles to support the development of complex or sculptural designs.
• Ensure pattern accuracy, garment feasibility, and efficient construction methods.
• Maintain organised digital pattern files and documentation.

Preferred Skills

• Experience working with luxury or runway collections.
• Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator or other technical design tools for pattern referencing.
• Experience preparing patterns for sample production or small-batch manufacturing.

Skills and Experience Required

• Proven experience as a pattern maker in fashion design or garment development.
• Strong proficiency in CLO3D and digital garment simulation.
• Solid understanding of pattern cutting, garment construction, and garment fit.
• Experience working with experimental or avant-garde silhouettes is highly desirable.
• Ability to translate design concepts into technically viable patterns.
• Experience with draping and toile development.
• Strong attention to detail and garment proportions.
• Ability to work collaboratively with designers and respond to creative feedback.
• Good organisational skills and a positive attitude
