Archive Digitisation Assistant

Salary £12.21 per hour (National Minimum Wage

Main Duties

Support a short-term archive digitisation project for a major art institution in central London. The role involves working with physical archival material and converting it into high-quality digital records.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing physical archival material for digitisation, including removing staples, clips, and bindings while ensuring documents remain correctly ordered
  • Digitising documents using scanning or camera-based capture equipment following provided quality and resolution guidelines
  • Carrying out high-volume scanning accurately and efficiently while maintaining consistent image quality
  • Performing basic quality control checks on captured images (focus, alignment, completeness) and flagging any issues
  • Organising, naming, and storing digital files according to the project’s file structure
  • Reassembling and returning archival documents to their original folders and packaging after digitisation
  • Assisting with the daily setup and shutdown of scanning equipment
  • Maintaining a tidy and organised working environment while handling materials carefully

Skills and Experience Required

This is an entry-level role, and no prior digitisation experience is required. Training will be provided on-site.

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have strong attention to detail and can work carefully with physical documents
  • Are organised and able to follow clear processes and file structures
  • Are comfortable performing repetitive tasks while maintaining consistent quality
  • Are reliable and able to commit to 12-hour working days Monday–Friday during the project period
  • Are comfortable working on-site as part of a small team
  • Have a basic level of computer literacy (file management, folders, naming files, etc.)

This role may particularly suit people interested in art, archives, research, cultural institutions, or digitisation work.
