Main Duties

Chelsea Fine Arts was established in 2009 and is now a leading provider of art education for children who are serious about learning to draw and paint (website www.chelseafinearts.co.uk). The freelance art tutor opportunity is an ideal part time job for a recent art school graduate who has a strong painting and observational drawing skills and who wants to further their career as an artist while earning extra income from tutoring. Tutors will be trained to use the Chelsea Fine Arts teaching method which has had excellent results over the last 16 years. These are valuable skills for any teacher to have and as all our tutors are trained we are able to ensure a seamless and consistent tutoring standard to our students. Apart from teaching, tutors work together to set up before class and clear up after class.

Tutors work alongside 3 other tutors and the art class lasts 2 1/2 hours. Students are taught individually rather than as a group and the average student to tutor ratio is 5 to 1. We have dedicated studios in Chelsea and Ravenscourt Park. The studios are easily accessible by public transport: Chelsea Wharf is serviced by Imperial Wharf overground rail service, or the District line to Fulham Broadway or buses from Sloane Square. Our Ravenscourt Park studio is on the District line (one stop from Hammersmith).

Skills and Experience Required

We are looking for freelance tutors who want to work on a part time basis every Sunday during the term which is 11 weeks long and Monday afternoons from 3 45pm to 6 45pm during the term. There will also be optional cover work and holiday classes that can be added to the teaching schedule if desired.

Candidates should have achieved a Degree in Fine Arts, preferably with a specialisation in painting. Candidates should have demonstrable skills in drawing and painting from observation. Experience working with children is valuable, as is a passion for passing on skills and knowledge. Candidates should be flexible and willing to learn the teaching methods at the studio.

Tutors should have a valid DBS Check or be willing to apply for one. Reliability, common sense, good listening skills, patience and a positive, encouraging attitude are essential. A strong work ethic, can-do attitude and teamwork is essential.
